Especially for teen and young adult women, adequate calcium in a healthy diet may help prevent osteoporosis later in life.
Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body and more than 99% of the body’s calcium is found in our bones. Its major function is in building and maintaining bones and teeth, but it is also important in many enzymatic reactions in the body. Calcium is also necessary for the contraction of muscles, the release of neurotransmitters, regulation of heart beat, and the clotting of blood. Over time, a calcium deficiency may ultimately lead to osteoporosis, which thins and weakens bones making them frail to the point where they break easily. The symptoms of osteoporosis may not be noticed until most of the bone loss has already occurred. Exercise and a healthful diet with adequate Calcium intake throughout life are important for teen, young adult and postmenopausal women. Osteoporosis affects middle-aged and older people, especially those with a family history of fragile bones in later years. Calcium supplementation is a key factor in helping to prevent osteoporosis.

The main sources of Vitamin D are food and sunlight. For those who do not get any sunlight (particularly the elderly in nursing homes), they may be at a higher risk of Vitamin D deficiency and Vitamin D supplementation is recommended. However, Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin and should be taken in recommended amounts. Vitamin D’s primary role in the body is stimulating the absorption of calcium and is necessary for bone development. Calcium with Vitamin D is recommended to be part of a daily regimen for the Women’s Health, Family Health, Bone/Joint Health, 4 Basic Vitamins, Diet/Weight Management.

SUGGESTED USAGE
Take two to three tablets two times daily, with a meal (or as recommended by your health care professional). Keep bottle tightly closed and store in a cool, dry place. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. Do not use if imprinted seal under cap is broken or missing.
Daily calcium dosages should not exceed 2,500 mg/day. For adults, Vitamin D intake from food and supplements should not exceed 2000 I.U. (Elderly persons should strive for an intake 400-800 I.U. of vitamin D daily.) Calcium with Vitamin D Tablets are made to USP and Nature Made’s guaranteed purity and potency standards.

FAQ
What is Calcium Citrate?
This is an essential mineral that is necessary for maintaining healthy bones, teeth, muscles, nerves and more. This form of calcium is well tolerated.

I take Calcium Carbonate, which is better?
Both Calcium Carbonate and Calcium Citrate are excellent sources of calcium. Some individuals may experience gastrointestinal upset while taking Calcium Carbonate. Calcium Citrate has been shown to be gentler on the stomach. Therefore, if you experience stomach upset while taking the carbonate form of calcium, we would recommend that you switch to Calcium Citrate. In addition, Calcium Citrate can be taken with or without meals, unlike Calcium Carbonate, which needs to be taken with meals.

Are there any side effects?
Calcium Citrate supplements are generally well tolerated.

How much should I take?
1000 mg daily is recommended for adults.

Which foods are high in calcium?
Milk and low-fat milk products are the most calcium dense foods. Canned salmon and sardines with bones, tofu, dark green leafy vegetables, oysters, calcium fortified orange juice and cooked dried beans and peas.

Is this made from shellfish?
No. This is made from limestone.
