About Carpal Tunnel Pain Relief

Carpus is a word derived from the Greek word "karpos" which means "wrist." The wrist is surrounded by a band of fibrous tissue which normally functions as a support for the joint. The tight space between this fibrous band and the wrist bone is called the carpal tunnel. The median nerve passes through the carpal tunnel to receive sensations from the thumb, index, and middle fingers of the hand. Any condition that causes swelling or a change in position of the tissue within the carpal tunnel can squeeze and irritate the median nerve. This type of irritation causes tingling and numbness of the thumb, index, and the middle fingers and creates the condition known as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS).
Causes of CTS
Once thought to be caused by lactic acid buildup, a more recent theory is that it is caused by tiny tears in the muscle fibers caused by eccentric movements, or unaccustomed training levels. The dismissal of the lactic acid theory was that rapid dispersal of lactic acid could not explain pain felt the next day.
More recent research claims that DOMS is not caused by the pain from damaged muscle cells, but from the reinforcement process.
