Can I eat a POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bar during my pregnancy?
Yes. POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ provides essential nutrients like protein, iron, folic acid and vitamin C that your body needs during pregnancy. Additionally, POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ can be particularly useful during the first few months of pregnancy when nausea can make eating other foods difficult. Can children eat POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bars?
POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bars make a nutritious addition to a child's balanced diet. Young children, aged 4-6, should be limited to ½ to 1 bar per day, while a whole bar is appropriate for children 6 or older. Consult your pediatrician for additional information.
I'm lactose intolerant. Can I eat a POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bar?
All POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ flavors contain some dairy-based ingredients. Although the amount of lactose is low enough for nearly all lactose-intolerant people to be able to eat these bars, the small amount of lactose in each bar may cause gastric upset in individuals highly intolerant of lactose.
I have food allergies. Can I eat POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ Bar?
The POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ flavors contain peanut, almond, milk, and soy ingredients. The products are produced on equipment that may also process wheat. We recognize that there are other food allergies and food sensitivities, so please refer to the actual ingredient statement for further information.
Do POWERBAR® products contain Genetically Modified Ingredients?
POWERBAR® uses ingredients that meet our high quality standards and are in full compliance with U.S. government regulations.
Genetically modified (GM) crops grown in the US have been reviewed extensively by the FDA, USDA and EPA, who have determined that GM crops are as safe as their conventional counterparts. Because the use of GM crops does not affect the safety or quality of the ingredients made from them, we do not require that our suppliers specify the origin of the crops they use.
Is POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ organic? All Natural?
Each POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ Crisp bar uses natural whole grains such as oats and other minimally processed ingredients, but the bars are not certified organic. The vitamins and minerals used are all derived from natural sources, with the exception of Vitamin E. All bars contain dairy ingredients. Please check the ingredient statement on individual flavors for more information.

What is fractionated palm kernel oil?
Fractionation is a physical process to make palm kernel oil more solid at room temperature. It involves heating and cooling the oil to remove the liquid portion (or “fraction”). This fractionation process creates a solid fat made up primarily of saturated fats that won’t melt at room temperature.
Fractionation vs. Hydrogenation Hydrogenation is another process to convert a liquid oil into a solid fat. It is a chemical process where hydrogen is added to the oil under heat and pressure, chemically altering it and making it more saturated. But during the process, trans fats are also formed. Trans fats are substances that, depending on intake and total dietary patterns, can raise total blood cholesterol levels and can raise LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and lower HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels. Both of these increase cardiovascular disease risk. The National Academy of Sciences has recommended that Americans consume as little trans fats as possible within a healthy diet.
Because POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bars do not use hydrogenated oils you will see that the label clearly states “Trans Fat 0g”.
Where and why do we use fractionated palm kernel oil?
POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bars are coated or dipped in a chocolatey coating. We believe that this coating make our bars more delicious and provide our consumers with a greater variety of healthy, convenient snacks to choose from. The coatings contain fractionated palm kernel oil, which is solid and stable at room temperature. Regular vegetable oil would cause the coatings to melt, even at slightly warm temperatures and is also more prone to rancidity, which can lead to undesirable flavor changes.
What is maltitol? Do POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bars have maltitol and why?
POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ Layered bars have maltitol. Maltitol is a sugar alcohol that provides an alternative to sucrose (table sugar) in that it is nearly as sweet, contains half the calories per gram and does not cause blood sugar and insulin to spike.
I have heard that maltitol can cause digestive upset in some people. Is that true?
In a recently published clinical study*, both occasional and regular consumption of maltitol were compared to sucrose and neither was associated with severe digestive symptoms.
However, some people may experience mild gastrointestinal symptoms when first consuming maltitol-containing foods or when eating several servings of the food per day. There is evidence that our systems can adapt to the intake of sugar alcohols, like maltitol, similar to the way we can adapt to increases in dietary fiber. Sugar alcohols and fiber are similar in that they are digested primarily in the lower GI tract. Regardless, the amount of maltitol in a POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ layered bar would not be expected to cause digestive upset.
Will POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bars freeze?
With its open texture, POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ Crisp bars can be consumed in cold weather conditions. However, the POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ Layered bars do harden in freezing temperatures. Try softening the bar by warming it next to your body for a few minutes.
How should I store my POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bars?
Store POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bars in a cool, dry place, between 40 degrees and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bars do not need to be refrigerated. However, storing a TRIPLE THREAT™ bar in areas where the temperature exceeds 70 degrees for an extended period of time will result in significant changes to the taste, texture, color, and coating of the product.
How long will my POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bars last?
Each POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bar is stamped with a "best by" date. Although it is safe to eat POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ after this date, we recommend that you use the bar by the “best by” date to ensure you’re getting the full nutritional benefits of the product.

POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bars are nutrient-dense meaning there are a goodly number of vitamins and minerals (16) in each bar and at a goodly level (15-100% DV). They also contain more fiber than traditional snack foods and less sugar than candy bars. All of this makes for good alignment with the new guidelines.
The US Dietary guidelines also recommend limiting consumption of trans fat and saturated fat. POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ bars contain no trans fat. The POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ Crisp flavors have only 2g of saturated fat (10% of the daily recommended amount). The POWERBAR® TRIPLE THREAT™ Layered bars have 4.5g of saturated fat (23% of daily recommended amount).
