How It Works
STRUCTURE/FUNCTION
Human cells are constantly exposed to reactive forms of oxygen, such as superoxide, hydroxyl and peroxyl radicals, and hydrogen peroxide. For the most part, such reactive forms of oxygen endogenously (within the body). Other reactive forms of oxygen (eg, free radicals) are generated in the body when the immune system is activated in response to toxic elements, such as cigarette smoke, air pollution, or ultraviolet (UV) light.
Chronic exposure to free radicals can damage the body's cells, including the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), membrane lipids, lipoproteins, and functional and structural proteins. When cells are damaged, chronic diseases and poor health can result.
Research has shown that antioxidants can stop the damaging effects of free radicals in the body. Because of its chemical structure, Green Tea Phytosome contains potent antioxidants. Therefore, when used as a nutritional supplement, it supports the body's natural defense system against free radical damage, as well as contributes to overall good health.

Green Tea Phytosome vs Green Tea Antioxidant: Why is the extract more expensive than the phytosome? Why is there a listing of the active components of the extract, but not on phytosome?
Green Tea Antioxidant provides a significantly higher level of green tea extract per serving when compared to the phytosome product. Hence, the higher cost.
Green Tea Antioxidant contains 250 mg of a standardized extract per capsule. Green Tea Phytosome, on the other hand, provides 100 mg of a unique complex, which combines one part green tea extract with two parts phosphatidylcholine. This one-to-two ratio means that each capsule contains only 33.3 mg of the actual green tea extract - or approximately 1/7 of that found in the antioxidant product.
The advantage of Green Tea Phytosome is that the combination is better absorbed than non-phytosome products. Clinical studies have shown that the phytosome technology can increase the absorption of green tea extracts by up to 200%. In addition to the difference in amount, the actual extracts used in each of these products are different. The green tea extract utilized in the patented phytosome process is standardized to contain 60% polyphenols and a minimum of 40% epigallocatechin-3-0-gallate, whereas the decaffeinated extract in Green Tea Antioxidant has only been standardized for polyphenol content (70%).
