If both are whey proteins, then what's the difference between PRO-SCORE 100 and PURE WHEY PROTEIN STACK?
Although both are whey proteins, PRO-SCORE 100 is a hydrolyzed whey protein that is lactose-free making it hypoallergenic. How does hydrolysis make PRO-SCORE 100 a better whey protein?
Although commercial whey proteins are a very good protein source, they are dairy proteins and as such, are harder to digest than egg or beef proteins. This is due in part to the presence of the allergens, lactose and beta-lactoglobulin. These components, found normally in dairy (cow's) milk, may impede proper nutrient transport. Where does whey protein come from?
All whey protein is derived from milk. Milk is an excellent protein source in it’s own right, however milk has a number of drawbacks that make it a poor choice as a primary protein source. The number one drawback is milk proteins are difficult to digest.
Unaltered, whey protein contains lactose and beta-lactoglobulin, both of which are common allergens. Lactose is the milk sugar present in milk, both dairy and human breast milk. On the other hand, beta-lactoglobulin is a whey protein fraction native found in dairy milk but not in human breast milk.
Aside from causing allergic reactions in susceptible people, these same compounds make milk more difficult to digest while doing nothing to improve the bioavailability of the proteins which the milk contains.
Luckily, advances in food science has enabled us to remove lactose and beta-lactoglobulin through a process called hydrolysis. Hydrolysis uses enzymes to alter the whey protein structure, breaking it down into smaller, more available fragments called peptides.
Peptides contain all the valuable amino acids found in whey protein, but without the allergic reactions and difficult digestion typical of unhydrolyzed whey proteins.
While this might not seem like a big difference on paper, within your body this makes all the difference in the world. That’s because your body doesn’t see peptides as foreign substances, but rather as friendly nitrogen and amino acids.
